Maternal and latent effects

In many species, including humans, the performance of individuals during the juvenile life depends on environmental conditions experienced of mothers, embryos or larvae. This experiences modify the phenotype of organisms but sometimes their effect remain latent for a while, and only express themselves in particular environmental conditions or at critical stages of the life cycles. We study how these experiences affect organisms physiology and result in differential performance and survival. Ultimately, we want to understand how these effects can influence recruitment and population dynamics of benthic organisms
